Lesson Viewer is corrupted/won't open
Introduction
If your Lesson Viewer install stops working, or you are using an old version and wish to upgrade, you can create a new installation of the Lesson Viewer on your computer and import all your saved. lessons. This means that you can safely update the Lesson Viewer at any time without losing any of your lessons.
Note that if you are using Lesson Viewer version 7.01 and above you can update by choosing the update option from the Help menu within the Lesson Viewer.
The process of replacing your old or non-working Lesson Viewer install has three stages:
- Downloading the latest version of the Lesson Viewer
- Importing your saved content
- Replacing your old Lesson Viewer
Downloading the latest Lesson Viewer
1) Go to the Digital Learning website and log in. Click the "Lesson Viewer" button in the downloads column on the right-hand side of the page.
2) Select either the PC or Mac download, depending on which system you use.
3) While the Lesson Viewer is downloading, go to your desktop and create a new folder called "Lesson Viewer".
4) When the Lesson Viewer has finished downloading, open the zip file. Open the folder named "Charanga eLearning Resources." Inside you should see 2 folders and a "lesson viewer.exe" inside. Copy the contents of this folder into the new folder that you created in step 3.
Importing Saved Content
1) Double-click on the "lesson viewer.exe" program. You will be prompted to enter your username and password for the Digital Learning website. Enter these details to log in.
2) Click the "Import" button at the top-right hand corner of the screen. Choose the "Import from DVD/Folder" option.
3) In the dialog that appears, select the directory of the Lesson Viewer from which you wish to import your lessons.
4) Click OK. The Lesson Viewer will now start importing all lessons from the folder you selected.
Replacing your old Lesson Viewer
1) Once the Lesson Viewer has finished importing lessons you will be able to view them from either the home screen or by clicking "My Downloaded Lessons". Check that your Lessons are all present in either of these locations before continuing to the next step.
2) Close the Lesson Viewer. Open My Computer and navigate to the location of your old Lesson Viewer. Delete everything from inside this folder.
Note: Remember to copy any non-Lesson Viewer content (Word documents, etc) that you may have in this folder before you delete it.
3) Open the Lesson Viewer folder that you created previously and select all 3 items within it.
4) Copy these items into the folder in which your old Lesson Viewer was stored. You can now run the updated Lesson Viewer as normal from its original location with complete access to all of your original lessons.
